Anyone who was expecting a dramatic change in the Washington Redskins' uniforms—like the one floated here—was sorely disappointed today when Nike announced that the only thing that would be changing was the material the uniforms are made from. (According to SB Nation, Nike says they're "lighter, stronger and more form-fitting to allow no distractions for the player while he's on the field.")
NBC4 reports that a New York event to celebrate the start of a five-year partnership between Nike and the NFL to produce uniforms that were once the province of Reebok didn't produce any significant changes for the overwhelming majority of the league's teams. In fact, spare the Seattle Seahawks, pretty much every team will look the same. (The D.C. Sports Bog has a few pics of new casual apparel.)
In the grand scheme of things, maybe there's something to be said for keeping the uniforms what they were. The 'Skins could have ended up like the Terps or—gasp!—Baylor.
Now that this is settled, maybe Dan Snyder wants to take Jim Vance up on his offer to come up with a new name for the team.
